Letter between Jordan and Lola – May 2007

23 Oct

(When Jordan was in 7th grade, he was given an assignment to write to a family member.  He and Grandma exchanged letters over the next few months – these will be transcribed and marked as “Jordan and Lola Letters” for the blog.  Here is the 4th – and last – letter in the series.)

Dear Lola,

How are you doing Lola?  This will be my last letter.  I am so glad we got to talk and bond like we did.  In this letter I will be describing important lessons about life I gave learned so far.

One of the lessons I learned in life is how lucky and spoiled I am to have such a great, supportive family.  There are a lot of kids who aren’t as fortunate.  I also learned how lucky I am to live in a great neighborhood.  I can walk to school in safety, and go to the park at night without worrying about getting hurt or kidnapped.  Many kids live in an area where they can’t do that.

For spring break I went on a cruise with my friend Ryan.  One of the ports on the cruise was a city in Mexico that was very poor.  Their speed bumps are ropes tied from one pole to the other the cross the street.  After seeing the poverty that some people live I became very grateful of where I live now.

What were some of your greatest joys in life?  Based on lessons you learned about life, can you give me some advice on what to do or not to do in the future?  Also can you give your point of view on how you should live life?

Lola you are the best I love you so much.  Write me back!

Love,

Jordan

I’m too old this time 96 years old.  I’m happy.  God gave me all this years in good + happy life, with my seven children + many grandchildren, all are good by God’s help + guidance

I like to live in Concord.  Louie + Gloria’s house.  I have my own room with TV, near Livermore, when God call me I like to be in the side of my husband.  Quintin Ramil in Livermore.

Jordan, good you go on cruise with your friend Ryan.

Be good, peaceful, polite, happy, love your friends

Pray always, God will help you, take care of you.

loves you very much

(When Jordan was in 7th grade, he was given an assignment to write to a family member.  He and Grandma exchanged letters over the next few months – these will be transcribed and marked as “Jordan and Lola Letters” for the blog.  Here is the 3rd letter in the series.)

Dear Lola,

Hey!  How are things going at home?  This letter is about the challenges I face towards the future.  Some of these challenges will definitely change my future.

Some of the personal challenges I faced when I was younger was when my mother pasted away.  That horrific moment changed my life.  I have never cried so hard in my life.  My mom dying made me realize life is too short to live afraid or hold back.  I am determined to well in life for my mom.  I know there is no way to fix this challenge or bring my mom back, but to absolutely try my hardest and succeed in life I hope will make my mom proud.

What challenges did you face when you were my age?  How did they change your perspective on life.  Did these challenges change your future?  What sacrifices did you make to fix these problems.  After these challenges did you change as a person, if so, how?

Please try and respond as soon as possible.  I am really glad we are getting to know each other.  This is the first time we really got to talk.  I can’t wait to see you, aunty Gloria, uncle Louie, Peyton, Kylee, Jason, and Rachel in Concord soon!  I love you and miss you so much!

Love,

Jordan

Dear Lola,

Hey!  Thank you for writing back!  This letter will be about my dad and I.  Last night we had a big argument about who was cooler as a kid.  He always says he was more athletic and smarter, but I say I’m funnier.

I was flipping through his high school yearbook and saw he was a big sports star.  I can’t wait until I get to high school and break his records!  When my dad was growing what was he like?  Was he a nice kid?  Did he get good grades?

My dad is very intelligent, and athletic, just like me!  We both love sports, and love to laugh at each other.  Those are the similarities.  We don’t have many differences except I am more of a goof ball then my dad.  I love to joke around, which can get me in trouble sometimes.  my dad can be very serious at times, but always knows when to crack a joke.

Did you have any goals for my dad when he was a kid?  If so, did he achieve or exceed any of those goals?  Did any of those goals change my dad’s life?  What did you want my dad to be when he grew up?  What were some bad choices my dad made that affected his future?

Thank you Lola so much, I can’t wait to see up in Lotus, or at the house in Concord.  I love you with all my heart!

With Love,

Jordan
