SECTION — SCHOOL YEARS

GRADE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL

Q. Did you go to school as a child? If so, what schools did you attend for grades K-12? If you did not go to school, how were you educated?

A. Yes, Elementary school

Q. How did you get to school each day, and what was the size of your class? If you were taught one-room style, what was the age range of your classmates?

A. Novaliches, Elementary 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 No high school

I play baseball, short stop in grade 5-6

Q. If you attended high school, but did not graduate 12th grade, why did you drop out?

A. No high school

Q. How important was formal education to your family, and how far did your parents expect your education to go? Did your family want you to pursue a specific course of study or job path?

A. Yes, can’t affored rent for house

Q. Did you like schoo? What were your favorite subjects, and why?

A. Spelling + reading

Q. Who was your best friend, and what made that friendship endure? Are you still close today?

A. I have three best friends, 1 passe away, 1 living in Manila P.I, 1 living Makare P.I.

Q. During your school years, who, if anyone, did you look to for guidance and advice, and how did that person positively affect your life?

A. My father + mother

Q. What were your plans for the rest of your life?

A. I am old (ninety six.) 96

Prefer to stay in Concord, Live with Louie + Gloria in Concord. I have my own bedroom with TV. They are all good to me, waiting for my call. Grandma Ramil

I like to live in Concord because near Livermore, where I will be buried at the side of my husband grave. The place is paid already.

Q. What was it like growing up in your family?

A. Children growing

Q. Who provided the income in your family, what did they do for a living, and how well off was your family?

A. My wonderful, beloved husband. He did everything for my security. Dont worry

Q. Was there more than one language spoken in your home, or in your parents’ home? If so, what was it, and why was it kept alive or forgotten?

A. Yes, English, Tagalog

Q. What did you do in the afternoons, after school, when you were growing up?

A. Play

Q. What did you do in the evenings, after supper, when you were growing up?

A. Sleep

Q. How would you spend your weekends when you were growing up?

A. Play + sleep

Q. Did you or another family member play a musical instrument? If you played an instrument, how did you learn to play?

A. I dont play music

Q. What kind of music would your parents listen to; what would you listen to if you were by yourself?

A. Hym music at church

Q. What sort of magazines and books did your family like to read? Is there a book or group of books that were important to you when you were growing up?

A. Bible

A. Went to Hawaii, Have Two children reidecne in Hawaii

A. Reinion of family in Lotus, Calif. We have property there, house on 5 aktare land.

A. Nieces + nephews, 1 year

A. Methodist Church, IEMEFIF Church

A. Yes

A. My father a minister no we come to Methodist

A. Married life Live in many places, Pasay, Hawaii, Novaliches, Tarlar, Philippines, Stockton, Livermore, Concord

A. Beautiful, San Francisco

A. Beautiful

A. Yes Concord TV inside the room

(This journal was one that included questions for the journal owner to answer. Below are Grandma’s answers, written in at age 96.  No one knew she had worked in this journal until the evening of her passing – this was a discovery found by Joy, most appriopriately.)

A. Change my cause of married

Q. What is your current address?

A. 625 Falcon Way/Livermore, California

Q. When, where and in what town were you born?

A. Dec. 19, 1919 – Novaliches, P.I.

Q. Is there a story about your birth that your family would tell?

A. None

A. Rev. Arcadio Reyes Phlippins – 85 years old

Q. Why did he, or his family, come to America?  Where did they settle, and why?

A. We come to State, Calif.  To home (?) settel in Stockton, to fine job + good luck + fortune

Q. What have you been told about his family and childhood that was important to you?

A. Good + beautiful

Q. Describe your father as a young person, and as an adult.  Who was he? 

A. He advice many people as a minister.  He assined in congregations like, Banlat, Malabon, Pola, Novaliches in Luson.

Q. How many sisters and brothers were in his family, what were their faull names, and when were they born?

A. Has 4 brothers + a sister. All Borned in Pilippines. All gone

Dearest Lola,

After you complete this book, it will be the story of your life.  And what a beautiful story it is.  We feel so incredibly blessed to know you — to feel the warmth and strength in your hug, to experience pure joy from your smile and laugh and to be showered by your unconditional love.  From you we’ve learned how to always be happy no matter what challenges we face, to appreciate our life and our family and to ALWAYS smile!  Thank you for being you!!
